Marketing Podcasts You Have to Listen To

Did you know that 1 in 10 small businesses don’t invest in any sort of marketing?  And for those that do, 47% handle marketing tasks on their own.

If you really want your business to grow, you’re going to have to market.  For for those in that 47% who are handling it themselves, we realize what a challenge it is to stay up to date with all the current marketing trends and tactics.

The marketing industry has changed so much in the last 5 years it makes my head spin.  Even for me, it’s  been a real challenge finding out what marketers are doing that’s actually working.  When you’re running a business and have so many other essential tasks you have to take care of, finding the time to read or search the internet for ideas can become a task in itself.

Then I discovered that there’s  treasure trove of content, available for free, and accessible to everybody.

Podcasts.

Why are podcasts so amazing?  Here’s a short list:

  1. You can access them on any device you can get online.  Computer, tablet, phone, even Amazon Alexa.
  2. It’s easy to customize your experience.  Want to learn about Facebook?  Download only the episodes that cover the topic you’re interested in.
  3. You can listen while multitasking.  It’s easy to fit in episodes during commutes, time at the gym, or doing household chores.
  4. Have questions about an episode?  It’s easy to access podcasters on social media channels like Twitter and Facebook.  Or just drop them an email.

There are so many marketing podcasts available right now that it can be difficult to pick one that’s right for you.  Here’s a few of my favorite marketing ones.

Top 5 Favorite Marketing Podcasts

The GaryVee Audio Experience

Gary Vaynerchuk, known to his followers as Gary Vee, got his start as a teenager getting paid $2/hr making ice for his family’s liquor store in NJ.  So he “gets” family business and talks about it often on his podcast.

Back in the dot com boom, he utilized a strategy including ecommerce, email marketing, YouTube wine reviews and strategic pricing, and took his family’s business from 3 million to 60 million a year.  All by the ripe young age of 27.

Gary’s always been an early adopter of many industry disrupting media tactics and companies, and as a result makes it his personal mission to discover what the next “big thing” is and how to get his message in front of as many people as possible in the most creative ways possible.

While Gary’s VaynerMedia now manages digital marketing initiatives for clients such as Chase, Toyota and Pepsi, he also provides everything he’s learned and figured out for free online via his various social media channels.

Don’t miss out on following his podcasts and learning how to make modern media work for you, regardless of how large your business is.

Smart Passive Income

Pat Flynn took a professional setback (getting laid off at his job) and turned it into a business.  Ever since he’s candidly shared the strategies he’s used to build his passive income business with his followers, and has engaged a loyal following producing many success stories.

While the vast majority of his episodes have to do with ecommerce and passive income models, he’s also produced a slew of tutorials regarding branding, YouTube and video marketing, email list generation, and more.

If you’re looking for “how to” content, Pat’s your man.

The Fizzle Show

Fizzle provides both small business entrepreneurs and individuals with big start up goals a treasure trove of online video trainings on just about every important topic of the business world.  They also provide community support and roadmaps to help their users grow their business in ways they didn’t imagine was possible.

While I personally at times find one of the commentators on their podcast irritating (his voice just grates me!), they still make one of my top marketing podcast picks.  With gems like How to Resonate Deeper with Your Customers Based on the Science of Personality , they’re a marketing podcast not to be missed.

Social Pros Podcast

The Social Pros Podcast is hosted by Jay Baer of Convince and Convert, and Adam Brown of the popular CRM Salesforce.

What makes their podcast stand out is each episode they interview a “social pro” who is skilled in a very specific digital marketing strategy.  These pros work for a variety of companies including some major brands.  Best part is on some interviews, they’ll actually explain how social media is handled at these recognizable brands, and share some of the creative ideas and strategies they use to engage with their customers and prospects.

If you’re looking to learn more about social media and decide if it’s right for you and your business, I highly suggest giving these guys a listen.

Social Media Marketing with Michael Stelzner

This podcast is hosted by Michael Stelzner of the Social Media Examiner.

Stelzner despite beginning his career with zero social media marketing experience, always had a strong vision of what the channels could do for businesses.  So he created the platform to allow both business owners and marketers to share what was working well for them so everyone could benefit.  They now host of the largest professional social media marketing conference in the world.

If your goal is to really improve what you’re currently doing on social media for your business, add this podcast to your list.  They provide very detailed tutorials on specific tactics such as Facebook Ad Custom Audiences: Retargeting Those Who Know You.  Knowing these tactics can give you a leg up on your competition.

That rounds out the top five podcasts I frequent to stay up to date on my marketing skills.

You can access any of these podcasts directly from their websites, or utilize a podcast app or service such as Apple Podcast, Spotify, or Stitcher to access and download episodes to listen to.

After listening to a few episodes, if you have any questions about something you learned and how to put it into play, please email me. I’m here to help.
